"All things should be done decently and in order." 1 Corinthians 14:40.
If you know how to compare two whole numbers, you also know how to put a group of whole numbers in order.
Objective: Given a list of whole numbers the student will know how to order this list from least to greatest.
Andrew owns a major corporation and each month he has to make many payments. This month the payments he has are as follows:
Mortgage Payment: $8,945
Employee Salaries: $25,678
Building Repairs: $13,490
Electric Bill: $2,456
IT Related Charges: $930
Andrew needs to order his bills from least to greatest so that he knows which bills cost the most and which bills cost the least.
Step 1: Line up the numbers at the ones place.
8,945
25,678
13,490
2,456
930
Step 2: Begin to compare at the left.
8,945
25,678
13,490
2,456
930
930 has the least number of digits, so it is the smallest (least) number.
930
8,945
25,678
13,490
2,456
Step 3: Compare the remaining numbers. Find the first place where the digits are different.
Both 8,945 and 2,456 have four digits but 8 > 2 so the next two numbers in order are 2,456 and 8,945.
930
2,456
8,945
25,678
13,490
Finally, 2 > 1 so the final list is:
930
2,456
8,945
13,490
25,678
Andrew now knows that his bills are ordered from least to greatest.
$930, $2,456, $8,945, $13,490, $25,678.
Biblical Integration?
So where does the biblical integration come from? Notice we concerned ourselves first with the lesson and meeting the objective. That is perfectly fine. Next, we will think about the story we developed in order to teach the lesson. Can something about God and His character be connected to the story we developed?
What kind of story problem have we created in order to teach our lesson? We have a man named Andrew who is the head of a major corporation. Notice that Andrew has financial responsibilities. He has debts to pay.
Questions:
To whom does he own the most money?
To whom or what does he own the least?
Why was putting these numbers in order important for Andrew?
What does the bible say about planning (or making a plan). Luke 14:24
How does ordering these bills (debts) help Andrew to plan?
What does God think about planning ahead?
