Elliptical Obedience

Perhaps one of the most abundant examples of the ellipse in God's creation is found in the orbits of heavenly bodies.

An Ellipse, by definition is The locus of points for which the sum of the distances from each point to two fixed points is equal.

The orbit of the moon around the earth looks almost circular, but it is actually an ellipse. In the image below, do you see the green and blue dots? The green dot is one of the foci points. It looks like earth is the other, but in actuality, since the scale of this image is on the magnitude of tens of thousands of kilometers, the earth and the second foci look like they over lap. In reality, the earth is approximately 318 km left of the foci.

The two red lines are called d1 and d2. No matter where the moon is located, d1 + d2 remains constant. That is what defines an ellipse.

The red lines are the distances from the moon to the foci. The interesting thing is that when we add their lengths together, no matter where the moon is located, we always get the same number. In this example we get approximately: 768000 km.

Think of God as a programmer. The rules of the program are obeyed by the objects that are in the software. The moon is just another illustration of celestial obedience to these rules.

In Deuteronomy 4:19, Moses warns the children of Israel not to forget God and bow down to the "hosts of heaven". The sun, the moon, and the stars. Why would men do this? For the same reason that many scientists today worship science instead of the true God. Because nature exhibits God's rule and majesty and order of mind. Rather than giving God his due glory, they worshipped the creation. Romans 1:25
