Before David was king of Israel, God was refining him through the path of suffering. When we turn to Psalm 56, we find David calling out to God after he had been captured by the Philistines in Gath. (where Goliath was from).
Psalm 56 is 13 verses long, but it is verse 8 that we will take a moment to look at.
8 You have kept count of my tossings put my tears in your bottle. Are they not in your book?
The word "tossings" actually comes from the Hebrew word נוֹדּ (nud) which means "wanderings", or "wanderings of an aimless fugitive".
David acknowledges that God counts, He keeps record, Nothing passes His attention. If God counts where David has been and wandered, so too does he notice us in our aimless wanderings. Its not too trivial for Him. Neither is it too difficult.
Questions:
1. What does Jesus say about God counting in Matthew 10:30?
2. What is the highest number that God can count to?
3. Why does God spend time counting things that to us seem so trivial or irrelevant?
4. An atheist makes the claim that God could not have made the universe because it is
too vast. After thinking about Psalm 56:8 and Matthew 10:30, what do you think about
the atheist's claim?
