Base 10

Place Value

What is Place Value?

Place value tells you the value of each digit in a number. In our number system, each place has ten times

the value of the place to its right.

1 Samuel 18

Saul's Jealousy of David

As they were coming home, when David returned from striking down the Philistine, the women came out of all the cities of Israel, singing and dancing, to meet King Saul, with tambourines, with songs of joy, and with musical instruments.[a] And the women sang to one another as they celebrated,

“Saul has struck down his thousands,

and David his ten thousands.

And Saul was very angry, and this saying displeased him. He said, “They have ascribed to David ten thousands, and to me they have ascribed thousands, and what more can he have but the kingdom?” And Saul eyed David from that day on.

Questions:

1. How many times more did the women ascribe to David than they did to Saul?

2. Did Saul give any value to what the women said? [Did he give it any importance?]

3. Why did this make Saul angry?

4. What if someone has more of something than we do? How should we then proceed if

we find that we are jealous of someone?

5. If Saul had killed 5,000 Philistines, about how many could David have killed, according to the song?

Base 10 In Creation

Genesis 1:27

So God created man in his own image,

in the image of God he created him;

male and female he created them.

God created man. Man has 10 fingers (including the thumbs) and 10 toes.

Therefore: God gave us 10 fingers and 10 toes for a purpose.

Our minds are created to think in base 10. Grouping things in groups of ten comes naturally.

Questions:

1. What role did “chance” play in determining the number of fingers a person has?

2. Why does God give us both minds that think in base 10, as well as 10 fingers and toes?

Christ’s Millennial Kingdom

Jesus, as King of Kings and Lord of Lords, will then rule the earth from Jerusalem for 1000 years (Revelation 19:16, 20:4, 6). His period of rule is commonly referred to as the Millennium or his millennial reign.

Questions:

1. What is the difference between a 1000 year reign and a 100 year reign?

2. How many 100 year reigns will Jesus have on the earth when Revelation 19 and 20 take place?

3. Why such a long reign?
